Fall Birthday card

Well, I know I haven’t posted in while.  I have had a lack of mojo due to major stress at work.  However, things are looking up.

It is my brother-in-law’s birthday on Sunday.  I have the worst time making masculine cards, so I wasn’t really looking forward to it.  Plus, most of my stamps seem flowery or just not guy-ish.  I have a pick up truck stamp making its way to me but I wanted to get this done ASAP.  Anyway, I used the Stamping 411 sketch (minus the bow).

First, I cuttlebugged my blue paper with the swirls folder.  Then I used a Unity tree stamp; which I inked in Stampin Up Chocolate Chip ink, embossed with clear powder and cut out.  Using a little leaf stamp from the Waltzing Mouse Bountiful Baskets set and the chocolate Chip ink again, I made a background pattern on the base card.  Using the Birthday Wishes sentiment from the same set, I stamped it onto a cut out from a Spellbinders Nestie.  Next, I attached the Nestie cut out to the blue paper, then added a little white rectangle over it. Finally, I attach the whole thing to the base card.

Using the same wee leaf stamp, I added a few to the tree and colored them.   Using my versamark pen I “wrote” over the leaves and then embossed them with clear powder.  I added the tree to the card using dimensionals.  Then, I stamped and colored several more leaves.  Next, I added Gold Stickles to the leaves and covered them with Glossy Accents.  Since it is a card for a man, I decided on no ribbon.

I hope you like it.

Thanks for your kind comments and feedback.

Musical Card

Waltzing Mouse Challenge blog has a sketch challenge this week.

I was really puzzled at first, but then I started to come up with elements as I went along.  First, I used WM’s Musical Background stamps for the background of the card.  Then I made the pocket for the tag, free hand.  I just measured the size I would need to hold the “tag” plus a little extra on the sides and bottom to fold under to attach it to the card.  I didn’t want a big pocket because I wanted the background to be very visible.  I used the sentiment from Bountiful Baskets, the note from Musical Backgrounds and the flourish from Vintage Labels 4.  I inked the edges of the envelope in black.

The person I made this card for is very into music and I was having a hard time figuring out what to do with the tag.  Just as I was wishing for an instrument stamp, I realized I had just received a new Cricut Cart – Rock Princess.  Sure enough, there was the perfect cut, a guitar!  I cut it out, stamped the Unity sentiment on it (couldn’t ask for a better one) with white ink and embossed it with white powder.  Then I rubbed the Versamark ink pad over the whole guitar and embossed with glitter powder.  The effect is awesome!  I hope it comes through in the pictures.

On the inside I stamped more music notes and a sentiment.

Finally, I inked the edges of the card in black.

Sympathy Card

I made this sympathy card using the sketch from Waltzing Mouse Sketch Challenge.  I used Antique Linen to ink up my new text it stamps for the background. Then I used my Vintage label #4 stamps for the outline. The flowers are from Stampin Up and the sentiment is from Unity. Finally, I tied a ribbon around the card and sewed a button on (I was afraid the button would fall off if I used adhesive).
It’s simple, but I don’t feel you want a lot of fluff and bling on this type of card.

Thank you so much medallion card

I thought for several days about what I wanted to do for this weeks 2S4Y sketch challenge.  I spend a lot of time driving during the day for my job, which gave plenty of time to plan it out in my mind.  I used a Hero Arts Medallion stamp which I stamped in Stampin Up Chocolate Chip, Always Artichoke and Rich Razzleberry inks.  Using a Spellbinders Nestie scallop circle and regular circle I cut out the brown and green medallions.  Then I used a Fiskars circle part to cut out the center of the Rich Razzleberry medallion.  Next, I covered the cut out pieces in Glossy Accents.

While I was waiting for that to dry I made my own background pattern paper using circular stamps from Stampin Up, Unity and Waltzing Mouse and the previous ink colors (I went through several drafts!).  The ribbon is two pieces of taffeta and a purplely-pink color of ribbon tied together with twine.  The little tag is made using a Stampin Up sentiment and punch.  I popped it up with dimentionals and placed it so the button was “in” one of the background circles.

Once the Glossy Accents dried (they really brightened the color of inks) I lined up the circles, adhered them together and popped them up over the ribbon.  Finally, I added three Stampin Up pearls: a big one in the center of the medallion, a medium one in the center of one of the background circles and a small one on an outer part of a background circle.

I am also entering this card in this weeks Polka Doodles challenge since I “made” some of my of my items (background paper, medallion), which was the theme this week.

Love card

I made this anniversary card for my parents using the Waltzing Mouse Challenge Sketch this week.

I used a Cuttlebug frame and then inked the raised portion with Distressed Antique Linen from Tim Holtz.  Then smudged around the card with ink.  Next, I stamped the couple (American Art) in the center frame with Stampin Up Chocolate Chip ink.  Then colored it in with my Copics.  For the tag, I stamped Love (Unity) followed by my Waltzing Mouse Vintage tag #4 outline.  Using my coordinating Nestie I cut it out and inked it up with the antique linen and popped it up over the ribbon.  Pretty simple.

I hope you like  it.

Thanks for your kind comments, I love reading them!

Hanging By a Thread Card

BBTB2 challenged everyone to use the Sewing Machine cut from the Heritage Cart.  I thought and thought and thought about this one.  After looking through my stamp stash I found a cute little saying and thread stamp.  I wanted to make a mini card and decided to make it more vintage looking since that’s the look of the cut.

I used patterned paper from Best of K& Company and Bazzill cardstock.  The stamps are from Unity, stamped with SU Pear Pizzaz and colored with YG03, E21, E25, E29 and R29 Copics.

I hope you like it.
